Sri Lanka scored 337 runs in the second innings thanks to half-centuries from Dinesh Chandimal, Oshada Fernando, and Kaushal Mendes and thus set Pakistan a target of 342 runs for victory, which no team has been able to achieve at the Galle Cricket Stadium to date.
After a good start by the openers in pursuit of the target, the experienced Azhar Ali returned to the pavilion early, but Babar Azam once again took the leadership role and laid the foundation of victory along with Abdullah by playing a brilliant inning, and then Rizwan also scored 40 runs.
Abdullah Shafiq played an unbeaten inning of 160 runs to lead Pakistan to a record-breaking victory in Galle and also set a new world record.

During this innings, the Pakistani opener faced 408 balls but stayed on the wicket for more than that 524 minutes, which is a world record.
To date, no batsman in the history of Test cricket has stayed on the wicket for more than 500 minutes while successfully chasing the target.
It should be noted that the world record of staying on the wicket for the longest time in Test cricket is also held by a Pakistani Hanif Muhammad, who saved Pakistan from certain defeat by batting for 970 minutes against the West Indies in 1958 and this match was a draw.

A target of more than 300 runs has never been crossed at this stadium before today and the previous record for the highest target was held by hosts Sri Lanka when they set a target of 268 runs against New Zealand in 2019.
