This important project of public need and importance has been inaugurated in Karachi ahead of the second phase of local body elections, while many believe that the project is a PPP-led government in Sindh. It is trying to attract the people of the city by launching projects of public importance as an election campaign.
Under the intra-district bus project, about 240 air-conditioned buses imported from China will run on 7 routes in Karachi.
The bus also has Wi-Fi and camera facilities while 90 passengers can travel in one bus. In the first phase, the People’s Bus Service will run from Malir Model Colony to Tower.
Earlier, a statement issued on Sunday said that the Sindh Transport Department had completed all preparations for the inauguration of the bus service in Karachi.
The statement said that the bus service would start its work on Route One from Model Colony to Tower, with 38 stations on the 29.5-km route.
The other 6 routes include Indus Hospital (Korangi) 32.9 km from North Karachi, Singer Chowrangi (Korangi Industrial Area) 33 km from Nagan Chowrangi, North Karachi to Dockyard 30.4 km, PAF Masroor 28.2 km from Surjani Town and Gulshan-e-Bihar (Orangi).
The Sindh government has allocated Rs 4 billion in the budget for the next financial year 2022-23 for the purchase of more buses to be operated in Karachi under this scheme.
