PCB vs PSL: Franchises Get 1.6 Billion from PCB as COVID 19 Relief

PCB will provide 1.8 billion to all PSL franchises as COVID 19 Relief.

The Pakistan Cricket Board has compensated the Pakistan Super League clubs for the COVID-19 alleviation for the fifth and sixth editions with payments of Rs. 810 million and Rs. 828 million, respectively.

The cricket board provided financial support for the tournament’s first two seasons that were affected by the COVID-19 outbreak after the teams raised concerns about money last year.

It should also be noted that the franchises sued PCB last year over the financial model since they felt PCB had been unfair in keeping the majority of the revenue while the franchisees were responsible for the league’s budget.

In an effort to end the long-running dispute between the cricket board and PSL franchises, the Pakistan Cricket Board then developed a new financial model.

For upcoming competitions, the newly created model required that the PSL franchises get greater than 90% of the profit share.

The franchise owners expressed their discontent earlier this year when the Pakistan Cricket Board decided to also host the Pakistan Junior League (PJL), stating they had not been informed before the initiative was announced.
