Xiaomi has formally confirmed its collaboration with Leica, under which the company is working on a new smartphone that will be released in a few months.
The Chinese manufacturer acknowledged their “long-term strategic relationship” with Leica and stated that they have been working together on a flagship smartphone that would be released in July.
After Sharp, Huawei, and Panasonic, this is the fourth company with which Leica has worked on mobile imaging. Xiaomi, on the other hand, has not announced anything about the next flagship smartphone.
We assume the phone to be powered by the recently announced Qualcomm Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 CPU, given that it will be released in a few months. Xiaomi’s CEO, Lei Jun, has stated that the alliance will help the company’s image strategy but has not revealed any details.
Xiaomi appears to be following in the footsteps of other Chinese firms by including a unique feature on its flagship or premium smartphone to set it apart from competing smartphones.
Huawei started the trend in 2016 when it teamed with Leica to develop photography features for its flagship smartphones. Hasselblad has paired with OnePlus and OPPO, while Vivo has partnered with Zeiss.
