Dr. Saeed Akhtar was reappointed as Chairman of the Pakistan Kidney and Liver Institute (PKLI) on Monday by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, who also revived the board.
The decision was made in accordance with the PKLI board of governors meeting, which he presided over the day before.
The PM Office announced that Dr. Saeed Akhtar has been recalled from the United States and re-appointed as Chairman of the PKLI.
Dr. Saeed Akhtar returned to the United States four years ago after legal hearings and other concerns. Dr. Saeed Akhtar had left all behind in America to come to Pakistan, inspired by Shehbaz Sharif’s goal.
Dr. Saeed Akhtar was brought back by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, according to the PM Office.
The PKLI is the world’s first state-of-the-art and world-class kidney and liver transplantation facility.
As Chief Minister, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif designed this initiative to spare liver and kidney patients from excessive treatment costs and travel hassles abroad.
According to the PM Office, the former government used political vendetta against the project.
