The Health Department has recommended that schools and colleges open and close earlier than usual to protect pupils from the heat, according to the alert.

The Health Department has also requested that sports periods in educational institutions be suspended until the heatwave has passed. It has also requested that pupils be seated in classrooms with enough ventilation.

To ensure that kids stay hydrated throughout the day, the department intends to set up emergency support desks in schools and universities.

Students who are impacted by the extreme heat will receive first aid at the help desks.

The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) recently issued a warning that a severe heatwave would hit the country this week as temperatures remained well above normal.

Daytime temperatures will be 7-9°C above average in Islamabad, upper Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Gilgit Baltistan, Azad Jammu, and Kashmir.

Temperatures will be 6-8 degrees Celsius above average in upper and central Sindh, central and south Punjab, and most of Balochistan during the day.
