The government has again increased the price of petrol by Rs 3 per liter this month. According to a statement issued by the Finance Division, the new price will be Rs 147.83 per liter after an increase of Rs 3 per liter in the price of petrol.

The statement said that the price of high-speed diesel and kerosene has been increased by Rs 3.3 per liter and light diesel oil by Rs 3.33 per liter.

According to the notification, the new price of high-speed diesel, kerosene, and light diesel oil will be Rs 144, 62 paise, Rs 116, 48 paise, and Rs 114, 54 paise per liter respectively.

According to the notification issued by the Finance Division, the new prices will be applicable from January 16.

Earlier on January 1, the government had also increased the prices of petroleum products and made petrol and diesel more expensive by Rs 4 per liter.

A statement issued by the Finance Division said that the price of petrol and diesel has been increased by Rs 4.4 per liter, kerosene by Rs 3.95, and light diesel by Rs 4.15 per liter.

After the price hike, petrol was priced at Rs 144.82 per liter and diesel at Rs 141.62 per liter.

Similarly, the price of kerosene was Rs 113.53 per liter and light diesel oil was Rs 111.06 per liter.

It may be recalled that the government had earlier on December 15 announced a reduction in the price of petrol and diesel by Rs 5 per liter, which was the first reduction announced by the government since September 1.

Despite the increase in the price of petrol in the current financial year, the country has seen a record increase in its consumption, and in the financial year 2021, unlike other petroleum products, the consumption of petrol increased to 8.35 million tons.
