Federal Interior Minister Sheikh Rashid Ahmed inaugurated the upgraded Pakistan Online Visa System (POVS).
Earlier, the system was launched in March 2019, which was a difficult phase and difficult to access via smartphones and tablets, Dawn reported.
The system has undergone major changes, making it user-friendly and ensuring a robust and secure interface compatible with all devices.
Addressing a function at the National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA) headquarters, the Home Minister said that the online application was fulfilling the positive image of the country by promoting tourism in Pakistan.
He said that easy access to Pakistan through POVS has improved foreign direct investment in the country as well as encouraging economic activities.
He said that 600,000 applications had been received from 180 countries through the online visa system.
On the occasion, NADRA Chairman Tariq Malik expressed hope that the online visa system would help in halving the time required to apply for a visa.
He said the increase in international tourism was a testament to the 94 percent increase in visa issuance rates.
“My mission is to make our services public and to make services available to everyone,” he added.
In addition, the business visa policy has been improved by including the types of medical tourism, C-pack visa, pilgrimage visa, mountaineering, and trekking visa in the online system and the process of visa availability within 24 hours is being made possible.
