Prime Minister Imran Khan has launched the Digital Power of Attorney (POA) service for Pakistanis abroad.

According to TechBuraq, the state-of-the-art digital solution was introduced by the National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA), which offers a long-awaited facility to Pakistanis abroad, who have previously been physically involved in related missions abroad.

NADRA, in collaboration with the Ministry of External Affairs, developed and implemented a web-based solution for obtaining Power of Attorney for Pakistanis abroad, which would enable overseas Pakistanis to apply for the issuance of Power of Attorney.

The digitization of the power of attorney process is aimed at resolving the problems faced by overseas Pakistanis.

NADRA Chairman Tariq Malik said that the launch of digital services for migrants was another step towards realizing the Prime Minister’s vision of facilitating the delivery of public services.

He said that every year more than 73,000 overseas Pakistanis turn to embassies and missions for the power of attorney general.

He further said that the digital facility of launching POA while relaxing in their homes is a big step towards saving time and travel costs of overseas Pakistanis as well as eliminating the hassle of consumers.

Tariq Malik said that in countries or cities where there is no Pakistani embassy or consulate, most Pakistanis residing there would benefit from this online facility, having previously had to go to a Pakistani embassy in a nearby country to issue a power of attorney. Was

The pilot phase of this facility has been started in 10 missions of Pakistan abroad which will be replicated later in all other missions.

The embassies included in the pilot phase include Pakistani embassies in Washington DC, New York, Chicago, Houston, Los Angeles, London, Birmingham, Manchester, Glasgow, and Bradford in the United Kingdom.

This state-of-the-art facility developed by NADRA uses state-of-the-art Pak ID online biometric verification services.

The applicant along with 2 witnesses will scan and upload their paper biometrics after verification from NADRA at the same time.

NADRA has also included the option of a video interview in the application process by which the Consular Officer at the Pakistani Embassy will take online interviews of the applicant and witnesses and notarize their consent for the issuance of Power of Attorney.

This portal has the features of uploading scanned documents and photographs and also allows the consular officer to compare and verify the details with NADRA data. The above-mentioned features meet the international standards of EKYC compliance.
