Non-Textile Exports Increase by 23.4% due to Resumption of Exports

Pakistan’s non-textile exports grew by 23.4% year-on-year to 2 2.48 billion in the first quarter of this year.

The increase in exports is due to the partial restoration of international orders and government schemes.

According to the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS), the overall growth in the non-textile sector was due to value-added sectors and orders in the non-textile sector are yet to return to pre-Corona epidemic levels.

Despite the lockdown in most countries, export growth continued in FY2021 in three sectors, including leather garments, surgical instruments, and engineering products.

In the value-added leather sector, exports of leather garments increased by 4% while exports of leather gloves increased by 8%, in contrast to the previous quarter in the first quarter of the current financial year (July-September).

Pakistan is a major supplier of surgical instruments but Pakistani products are resold in the Western markets under the names of famous brands, due to which the export price of the products is almost non-existent.

In the first quarter of the current financial year, the growth in exports of surgical instruments was negative at 6.09 percent as compared to the previous year, however, the exports of medicines increased by 7 percent.

In addition, footwear exports grew by 15.23 percent year-on-year, mainly in leather and canvas shoes, while engineering products grew by 10.87 percent year-on-year.

However, exports of electric fans declined by 22.78%.

Exports of carpets increased by 19% while sports goods exports increased by 16.8% in the first quarter of the current financial year as compared to the same period last year. 14.60 percent more.

The budget for 2012-13 included a number of government proposals, including a reduction in duty on raw materials to boost exports of pharmaceuticals, plastics, chemicals, engineering, and value-added textile products.

Figures compiled by PBS show that food exports increased by 26.41% during the first three months of the current financial year as compared to the same period last year.

In the food category, rice exports increased by 17.41%.

On the other hand, exports of basmati rice declined by 26.88 percent while exports of other rice increased by 12.78 percent.
