Pakistani Professor Dr. Muhammad Iqbal Chaudhry has been named the 2021 winner of the Mustafa Award, the world’s largest scientific award for his services in the field of bio-organic chemistry.

According to the state-run news agency APP, the Mustafa Prize Laureate is a prestigious science and technology award that is given every two years to top researchers and scientists from Muslim countries in four fields: life and medical science and technology. Nanoscience and Nanotechnology, information and communication science and technology, and all other fields of science and technology.

The award was established in 2012 as a symbol of international scientific excellence and is considered the Nobel Prize in the Muslim world.

Five scientists from Pakistan, Iran, Bangladesh, Lebanon, and Morocco have been awarded the Mustafa Award 2021 in their respective fields.

Prof. Dr. Iqbal Chaudhry, Director, International Center for Chemical and Biological Sciences (ICCBS) at Karachi University, is a world-renowned pharmacologist. More research papers have been published, 76 books and 40 chapters on the subject have been published in major American and European press books, and he has so far obtained 40 American patents.

Dr. Iqbal’s work has been copied by researchers around the world – a total of 27,407 times – and his H index is 70. So far, 94 local and international scholars have completed Ph.D. degrees under his supervision.

Dr. Iqbal with Ph.D., D.Sc and C.Cam degrees; Various Pakistani governments have awarded Hilal Imtiaz, Sitara Imtiaz, and Tamgha Imtiaz.

He has also been a Fellow of leading academies including the Academy of Sciences for the Developing World, the Islamic World Academy of Sciences, the Pakistan Academy of Sciences, the Royal Society of Chemistry, and the Chemical Society of Pakistan.

Prof. Iqbal had earlier been awarded the Kharazmi International Award by the President of Iran, the ICO Award in the field of Education by the President of Azerbaijan, and the Comstock Award in Chemistry by the Prime Minister of Pakistan

He was awarded the Distinguished National Professor Award by the Higher Education Commission in 2004 and the Distinguished Professor Award by the University of Karachi in 2013.
