According to the Pentagon, this is the first test of such a weapon since 2013.
A statement from the US Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA) said the Hypersonic Air Browsing Weapon Concept (HAWC) flight was tested last week.
The missile is powered by a Northrop Garmin Scrum jet engine. Russia also successfully tested a hypersonic cruise missile in July this year. The Russian president said on the occasion that this missile is second to none in the world.
