Operations against non-customs paid vehicles are underway in Quetta. During the last eight months, 966 vehicles have been seized in different parts of the province.

Most of the vehicles plying on the highways of Quetta, the capital of Balochistan, are non-customs paid, which are smuggled from Afghanistan to Balochistan.

According to customs officials, an operation was launched against non-customs paid vehicles last year with the cooperation of the government and 966 different vehicles worth more than Rs 1.5 billion were seized from Quetta, Chaman, Pishin, Noshki and Mastung during the last eight months.

These illegal vehicles are also a major reason for the daily increase in traffic in Quetta.

It is estimated that more than half of the vehicles plying in the province are non-customs paid vehicles.

There has been a mixed reaction from citizens to these operations by customs.

The use of non-custom paid vehicles in Balochistan and other provinces cause a loss of billions of rupees to the national exchequer for which the concerned department needs to take concrete steps to solve the traffic problems.
