What is an eSIM?

E-SIM is short for Embedded Subscriber Identity Module, or Embedded SIM. Rather than being available as a physical entity, the manufacturers integrate a small SIM card inside the phone, saving the switching between the physical ones when you change your service provider.

In machine-to-machine (M2M) applications, there is no requirement to change the SIM card, which avoids the necessity for a connector. It increases safety, network security, and security while decreasing space requirements since a relatively bulky connector are no longer required, improving purpose flexibility. An eSIM can be provisioned remotely end-users can add or withdraw operators without physically swapping a SIM from the device.

eSIM is an international specification by the GSMA which permits remote SIM provisioning of any mobile device. GSMA represents eSIM as the SIM for the next generation of the connected consumer device. Networking solutions using eSIM technology can be broadly appropriate to different Internet of Things (IoT) scenarios, including connected cars (smart rearview mirrors, on-board diagnostics (OBD), MiFi devices vehicle Wi-Fi hotspots), as well as artificial intelligence translators, GPS tracking units, intelligent earphones, smart metering, DTU, bike-sharing, advertising players and video monitoring devices.

Following the modern trend of innovation and technology, Ufone has now decreased the need for physical installation of SIMs for its customers with the introduction of eSIM. The Pakistani telecom operator has shared with Giesecke + Devrient Mobile Security (G + D) to launch these SIMs. The Ufone eSIM platform allows customers to integrate multiple SIM card numbers directly into their phone or IoT device with an agreeable handset using the Internet.

Customers can download a data plan and delete old SIM profiles within the same device without physically switching their SIM card. Ufone’s eSIM service is available all over Pakistan.

Speaking on occasion, a Ufone spokesperson said, “Our customers are now adopting a way to live an environmentally friendly life with ease, so it is important for us to provide them innovative solutions for their day to day tasks. By using Ufone’s eSIM, customers can experience seamless and unintruptive services in a sustainable manner and avoid the use of plastic SIMs. At Ufone, customer satisfaction and ease are of utmost priority. Consequently, all possible steps are being taken to ensure their convenience. “

This technology is suitable for many eSIM-enabled devices such as laptops, tablets, wearables, and IoT devices. It is also available for all handsets compatible with functions such as the iPhone 11, 12 and all its variants, such as the iPhone XS, XR and XS Max, which function like dual SIM phones.

For this purpose, Ufone has shared hand with Giesecke + Devrient Mobile Security (G + D), an industry leader in eSIM management with over 95 million + commercial eSIM / eUICCs, among the largest mobile operators Managed Universal Integrated Circuit Cards (EUICCs) for some and OEMs in Asia, Europe, America, Middle East and Africa; To launch a fully functional eSIM subscription management platform for its customers.

Ufone is one of Pakistan’s biggest telecom service providers and leads its digital transformation, with its modern and innovative and customer-centric approach. Combined with its struggle for seamless connectivity for all its customers across Pakistan, Ufone is continuously trying to enhance digitalization and ease of connectivity for all.
